Clean Up Any Audio Recording
Transform any poor-quality recording into professional-grade audio with AI-powered cleanup
Audio recordings that need professional cleanup?
AI handles the full range of voice recording quality problems in one upload: background noise (HVAC, traffic, crowd), room echo and reverb, electrical hum, wind noise, keyboard clicks, and transient sounds like dog barks — all processed simultaneously without requiring manual noise profiles or step-by-step workflows.
What You Get:
- Handles HVAC, echo, hum, wind, keyboard clicks, and transient noise in a single pass
- No silent 'noise sample' required — AI reads each recording's unique noise signature automatically
- Free 15-second preview on any recording before committing to the full file
- Works on any format: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, MP4, MOV, OGG, AAC — no conversion required

Diagnosing your audio problem before choosing a fix
Not all audio problems are the same, and applying the wrong fix wastes time or makes things worse. Before reaching for any tool, listen to your recording on headphones and identify what's actually wrong. Background noise (hum, hiss, ambient sounds) is different from echo (hollow room sound), which is different from distortion (clipping, crackling), which is different from low volume. Each problem has a different solution, and some are fixable while others aren't.
A quick diagnostic: play a quiet section between words. If you hear a constant hiss or hum, that's background noise — the most common and most fixable problem. If the speaker sounds distant or like they're in a bathroom, that's reverb or echo. If loud words crackle or sound harsh, that's clipping from recording too hot. If the audio is just quiet, that's a gain issue. Most recordings have a combination of these, and the order you address them matters.
What's fixable and what isn't
- ●Highly fixable — background noise (HVAC, fans, traffic, ambient), moderate room echo, low volume, inconsistent levels between speakers. AI tools handle these well in a single pass.
- ●Partially fixable — mild clipping (peaks just barely hitting 0dB), sibilance (harsh 's' sounds), mouth clicks, wind noise. These can be significantly improved but not perfectly eliminated.
- ●Difficult to fix — heavy clipping/distortion (recording levels far too high), severe echo (bathroom-level reverb), codec damage from extreme compression, and dropped audio (gaps from packet loss or recording failures).
- ●Not fixable — audio that was never captured (silence from a muted microphone, wrong input device selected), completely distorted recordings where speech is unrecognizable, and audio recorded at extremely low sample rates with no recoverable high-frequency content.
The correct order for audio cleanup
- 1Noise removal first — always. Remove background noise, hum, and ambient sounds before any other processing. Noise removal works best on unprocessed audio with intact noise patterns.
- 2De-reverb second (if needed) — remove room echo after noise removal. De-reverb algorithms can mistake noise for reverb, so cleaning noise first gives de-reverb a cleaner signal to work with.
- 3De-clip third (if needed) — repair any clipping or distortion. De-clip tools work by reconstructing waveform peaks that were cut off during recording.
- 4Volume normalization and compression — bring the overall level to a standard loudness target (-16 LUFS for podcasts, -14 LUFS for YouTube). Apply gentle compression (2:1 ratio) to even out volume differences between speakers or between loud and quiet passages.
- 5EQ and final touches last — apply any tonal corrections (reducing harshness, boosting clarity) after all the repair work is done. EQ at this stage works on clean audio and won't amplify noise or artifacts.
Tools for each step of the cleanup process
For noise removal and basic echo reduction, AI browser tools (Voice Isolate, Adobe Podcast Enhance) handle steps 1 and 2 in a single pass — this covers the majority of audio cleanup needs. For de-clipping, Audacity's Clip Fix effect or iZotope RX's De-clip module are the main options. For normalization and compression, any audio editor (Audacity, GarageBand, Hindenburg) includes these basic tools.
For most people with a noisy recording, the entire cleanup process is: upload to Voice Isolate, download the cleaned file, normalize volume in any audio editor. Two steps, under five minutes, handling 80-90% of typical recording problems. The more complex workflow only applies to recordings with multiple overlapping issues.
