Zoom dynamically adjusts audio quality based on available bandwidth. With a stable high-speed connection, Zoom uses higher bitrate audio codecs that capture fuller, more natural voice quality. On congested or slow connections, Zoom drops to lower-bitrate codecs that sacrifice audio fidelity to maintain the call. This is why the same meeting can sound fine for one participant and choppy for another.

For important meetings or recordings, use a wired ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi — it eliminates the packet loss and jitter that Wi-Fi introduces. Close bandwidth-heavy applications (video streaming, large downloads, cloud sync) during the call. If you're on a shared network, Zoom's audio will compete with other traffic. Before-call audio checklist
