GarageBand Noise Reduction — Working Around Its Limitations

GarageBand recordings picking up room noise, HVAC, or hum with no obvious way to remove it?

GarageBand on Mac and iOS includes a Noise Gate plugin (available in Smart Controls under the channel strip) that silences audio below a threshold during pauses, and a Channel EQ for cutting specific frequency bands. But GarageBand has no equivalent of Logic Pro's Noise Removal plugin or Audacity's Noise Reduction effect. For sustained background noise that overlaps with speech — HVAC, traffic, room ambience — the Noise Gate won't help because the noise is present while you're speaking. Export the audio as a WAV or AIFF file and run it through AI noise removal, which handles the frequency-masking that GarageBand's built-in tools can't.
