How to Remove Background Noise from a Zoom Recording

Your saved Zoom recording has distracting background noise, room echo, or the flat 'conference call' audio quality that makes it sound unprofessional.

Zoom recordings are saved as MP4 (video) or M4A (audio-only) files locally, or as MP4 to your Zoom cloud storage. The audio in these files is already compressed at a fixed sample rate and bitrate — Zoom's real-time noise suppression (enabled during the call) doesn't retroactively improve saved files. **Step 1 — Locate your Zoom recording:** Local recordings save to Documents/Zoom by default on Mac and Windows. Cloud recordings are accessible via your Zoom web portal. Download the MP4 or separate audio file. **Step 2 — Extract audio if needed:** If you have a video MP4 and want to process audio separately, use FFmpeg: `ffmpeg -i zoom_recording.mp4 -vn -acodec pcm_s16le audio.wav`.
